‘Tis the season for holiday parties. Getting ready for these events is always fun, but dressing for company holiday parties can be tricky. Our holiday party was this past Friday, and we were searching for that delicate balance of conservative and festive. No matter how relaxed your office is, the goal is something that says ‘I can loosen up’ opposed to ‘I’m loose’. So we thought we would share our festively conservative holiday looks to be of some help this season.
Here’s our breakdown.
M: I went out with my best girlfriends after the holiday party so I needed something that would transition. I wore a dress that has served me well (during work hours) in the summer months and layered an angular cropped sweater (it is December in Chicago after all). This made for an easy transition once we hit the bars.
Basic black pumps were added for some timelessness and the green snakeskin clutch for quite the opposite reason–and because I couldn’t resist. I kept the accessories simple to make sure I didn’t over do it. Cluster earrings and my daily watch did the trick. I didn’t need a coat and decided to bring my oversized scarf just in case. Can you believe this weather?!
Makeup was kept understated. Neutral shadow and a deep mauve lip ensured that I didn’t have to sacrifice any of the delicious foods. Speaking of– I stuck to white wine until dinner. The open bar can get away from me if I don’t take special care.
B: In the spring I decided to undergo a closet purge in an attempt to create a ‘capsule wardrobe.’ Although this idea is fabulous in theory, I donated all my heels and have yet to find replacements. So my look included booties! I’m forever cold–even in this unusually mild winter–so black tights were a must.
I wanted to go from work to the party without having to pack a bunch of extras, so I wore my swingy Zara dress with booties, a blingy necklace for some festive sparkle, and a dab of perfume. At work I wore a cardigan, but once it hit 5 I ditched the sweater, added a smokey eye and dabbed some illuminizer onto my cheek bones. This dress from Zara is one of my favorites; it’s so fun to wear, can be dressed up or down, and has pockets (could you ask for more?).
